Logos
“Your logo brands your business with an image that when seen by your target market, it brings to mind every facet of your business.”
Let me ask you, what makes a diamond sparkle? It's the many facets that a diamond has that brings out the inner beauty. As with the diamond in the hands of a gemcutter master, these facets are carefully planned. They're painstakingly honed to perfection. So too must the master web designer pay much attention to the many facets of your website design; a “diamond” in the rough.
One facet of your website design is your logo and images. Images are very important which you probably already know. Like the ol' adage goes “A picture is worth a thousand words”. When it comes to your website that is an understatement. A little planning and creative effort can go a long way. That's especially true for your logo. Your logo brands your business with an image that when seen by your target market it brings to mind every facet of your business. It's the symbol of who you are.
Good case in point; Total Return Solutions Corp. Below in the Logo Overhaulin' image section you can see their logo. Their original logo in and of itself is no different than the gazillion other logos you see every day. That's the problem. It didn't take much to take their artwork of the globular crescents and their name to dress it up a little. I added a background depicting what's called the “Golden Ratio or Golden Proportion” to subtly associate the company with something that is found in all of nature and throughout the entire universe. As with the natural “Golden Proportion” comes the natural subliminal notion that this is the company to hire… naturally!
One sees an image of your logo brand and they automatically know what to expect. At least that's the case when a company reaches critical mass. What then for the rest of us? Logos brand your company. We should always try to put our brand name out front and centre in such a way that it persuades potential customers to develop brand loyalty. One way to do this is to convey a feeling of confidence that choosing your brand is the right choice. By using images arranged in such a way that the flow should bring the potential customer to the conclusion that was planned out in the beginning.
So, let's bring this down to where the rubber meets the road and take a look at one way we can achieve this on your website. We will use Total Return Solutions Corp again for this example. Below in the Logo Overhaulin' image section, is their top portion of their website's home page, labeled Original Banner. Their banner shows a guy looking through a pair of binoculars on the left, the slogan “The Power Of Right Decision” in the centre and a seagull in flight on the right. You have to ask yourself, what does this mean? Seriously, I don't get it. Your audience will be lost if they need more than a split second to try and figure out what you're trying to convey to them with your slogan presentaton. You will also reduce the effectiveness of your company's branding image. Below their original banner is my concept of what I believe is a more effective way to convey what their slogan is trying to say to their target market. Does it invoke a sense of confidence that the right decision leads you to Total Return Solutions Corp.? A little bit of thoughtful planning and a bit of creativity can add value to your website design real estate and increase your company's selling potential.
